Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis Inc.

About the ACP

Established in 1986, the Australian Centre for Psychoanalysis Inc is a not for profit association dedicated to the practice, study and teaching of psychoanalysis, the training of analysts and research in the psychoanalytic field established by Sigmund Freud and extended by Jacques Lacan. Practising psychoanalysts of the Centre have undergone rigorous study, supervision and personal psychoanalysis.

Governance of the ACP

The ACP is an Australian Incorporated Association with a constitution (PDF,30Kb), a code (PDF,9Kb) of Professional Conduct and a formal complaints procedure.

The currently elected Committee of Management consists of:
Ofelia Brozky,Carmel Fahey, Elizabeth Newman, Ursula Paton (Treasurer), Susan Schwartz (President) and Carl Scuderi (Secretary).

Membership

The ACP invites applications for membership from those who demonstrate a sustained interest in the Centre and Psychoanalysis. Members subscribe to the objects of the ACP Constitution and the Code of Professional Conduct. The ACP has two categories of membership - members and associate members - both of which require the payment of a fee and annual subscription. Some of the material benefits of membership include discounts on seminars and conferences. A free subscription to the ACP journal (Analysis) is also included within membership. Applications, supported by a nomination, must be in writing and lodged with the Secretary of the ACP. Admission to membership is at the discretion of the Committee of Management and not all applications are necessarily approved. Only full members of the ACP are eligible to apply for inclusion on the ACP Register of Practising Analysts.

Participation

Anyone with an interest in the study of psychoanalysis is welcome to participate in the public activities of the Centre.

Affiliation

The ACP is a member association of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
